Technology Sector

Technology Sector covers a wide range of companies involved in the Research and Development of products within Sub-Sectors such as, Software, Hardware, Electronics, Semiconductors and many others.

Commonly termed as the Tech Sector, this is the Sector classification for Sub-Sectors and Stocks involved in the research and development of Technology hardware, software and services. The Tech Sector covers a very broad range of Sub-Sectors. The classification is open to debate. The main Sub-Sectors included:

Software Companies, products include applications for the Internet, Computers, Database Management.
Hardware and Equipment Companies, covering the manufacturing of Computers and associated devices, Telecom, Communication devices and consumer Electronic devices.
Semiconductors Companies, manufacturing Microchips used a vast range of consumer products, from Mobile Phones to Cars and a vast range of Industrial and Defense products.

Over the past couple of years, a handful of Tech Stocks (MAAAM), Meta, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft have dominated the U.S. Stock Market with a combined Market Cap of around 10% of the total Market Cap. Earnings growth, upwards earnings revisions and price momentum has driven their collective increase in Market Capital. Nevertheless, an earnings downgrade, as was the case with Meta, led to a sharp correction in the Stock Price.
