Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI)

Purchasing Managers’ Index assesses if the current business environment is stable, improving or worsening across five areas. Production, New Orders, Supply Chain, Inventories and Employment.

The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) is based on a survey to determine the current direction in economic trends in the manufacturing and service sectors. The survey is taken across 19 industries, covering both upstream and downstream businesses. The Index is a survey of Purchasing Managers and the objective is to assess the current business environment. This is done by surveying if the business conditions are stable, improving or worsening across five different areas Production Levels, the level of New Orders, deliveries from Suppliers, Inventories and Employment levels. The results are summaries as a straight up or down, with 50 meaning that an equal number of Purchasing Managers responded with positive and negative sentiments.
